Privileging 101 - Back to Basics Part 2 - Advanced Practice Providers

This second session of the 5-part series will detail the educational paths followed by the various Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) from formal training and education to obtaining state specific licensure, certification, and/or registration; discuss what is meant by scope of practice; provide an in-depth review of APP specific program education and training components including: skills training, performance and current competency requirements, and expectations following completion of training with regard to certification, lifelong learning, advancement of skills, and ongoing competency.

At the end of the session, attendees will be able to:

• Discuss the differences in education/training with respect to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants

• Review and examine the various certifications offered to APP’s and identify the requirements to obtain initial certification and the process for re-certification

• Explain what is meant by state-specific scope of practice and give an example of how it might be utilized in the development of privileges for an APP

• Locate, utilize, and apply the tools and resources presented during the course to continue expanding on current knowledge base
